The Green Hammock was inspired by my experience of Korean war when I was
9. After the September 9/11 in US, I went to the army store. As soon as I saw
the items from the war such as canteen, helmet, blanket, holding bed, and
uniform, my memory of the war was refreshed.

Brought bunch of US Army Women’s Nurse Uniforms to the studio, I tore the
uniforms and reassembled as a hammock. Incorporating marks on Nurses
Uniform, worn holes, stains, missing buttons, torn pockets, burnt marks and their
identity mark, my stitching and embroidery, was not the one that my grandmother
had thought, but wild and loose to meet the exploded emotion
with the spontaneity. Through the Hammock, hunted memories of wounded
soldier lying on it, while their dreams falling off from the body dangling to the
floor.

The work offers a comfort for the victims from the War, recognizing women’s
hard works on the field of war, and honoring nurse’s warmth of caring heart.
